About Amy
Hello and welcome! My name is Amy Allerheiligen and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist serving children, teens and adults in Boulder County and California (remote only). My specialty is helping clients of all ages process and heal from trauma and adverse life experiences. These are experiences that happened earlier in life may show up in the present as symptoms of depression, anxiety, emotional dysregulation, or substance abuse. Unresolved traumatic experiences can lead to unconscious, negative beliefs about oneself, others, and the world- beliefs such as “I’m not good enough”, “I can’t trust people”, or “I am not safe” and can hold a person hostage years or decades later impacting how they feel, think and react to the world. Evidence based tools such as Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Internal Family System (IFS), Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and mindfulness techniques can help clients heal and open up new and exciting doors, allowing them to live with more joy and ease, to feel more satisfied and connected in their relationships, and to reach their full potential.
One of my greatest passions is helping children, teens and parents. Through extensive training, I have mastered playful ways to help children identify and express their thoughts and feelings, learn how their brains and bodies work, improve self-esteem, and regulate big emotions. Utilizing playful techniques geared to help kids get to know their inner experiences helps them externalize thoughts and feelings that are difficult for them to express and uncover the feelings and needs that may be driving concerning behaviors. My specialty in EMDR therapy can help children process and heal from traumatic events and build resilience. I consider caregivers as partners on this journey to support their child and my work includes parent coaching and interactive parent-child play sessions. And, as a mother of two, I truly understand both the joys and challenges of raising children. I have over 15 years of experience working with children and teens including six years as a school counselor. I recently relocated to Boulder, CO and am happy to support clients in this wonderful community.
If you are feeling depressed or anxious, are concerned about your child or teen, or feel you could use some parent coaching, I am here to support you. Please schedule a free 20-minute phone consultation with me.
